Ingredients

Tupac Shakur, one of our most celebrated music artists, met an untimely death on Sept. 13, 1996. That was 20 years ago, and his music and legacy are still going strong.

His music was known for evoking emotion and communicating powerful messages, but it seems music was not his only passion. According to Fuse, he had a lot of different ambitions, involving film, writing and even the food industry. Tupac’s notes surrounding ideas for a café of his own were found after his death and remain on display in the Grammy Museum.

According to these notes, his restaurant would be named Powamekka Café, and would feature the favorite recipes of his fellow musicians. Those recipes would also be shared in his cookbook.

The Business Journal reports that in memory of Tupac and his foodie dream, Take 3 Burgers of Fresno, California, is partnering with marketing director Sam Hansen to create Powamekka Café. Hansen has worked in the past with Kanye West, who in a statement said that “Working on Powamekka Café makes me feel like I’m bringing Pac’s vision to life.”

Take 3 Burgers will be creating Powamekka Café in their existing Fulton Mall pop-up restaurant, and it will be open on Sept. 13, the anniversary of his death, at 7:00 P.M.

Working with Hansen, they created a logo based off Tupac’s ideas. Some of the menu items will include the California Love chicken sandwich, a mac-and-cheese burger, Hennessy Apple Butter chicken wings and Thug Passion cake pops with champagne cake and Alize liqueur-flavored frosting.

Also to commemorate the artist, there will be an art show, and a music show consisting of local musicians performing covers of their favorite Tupac songs. All I can say is I wish I lived closer so that I could experience this café for myself. Still, it’s nice to know that Tupac’s memory lives on and that he is loved today just as much as, if not more than, he was loved in the 90s.

The same restaurant hosted a tribute breakfast for Notorious B.I.G. on his birthday as well.
