Chick-fil-A is unveiling several new menu items aimed at healthier eating to be tested around the country.
The new meals are mostly breakfast items, consisting of quinoa, egg whites and fruit. The Harvest Kale & Grain Bowl, pictured above, features red and white quinoa, goat and feta cheese, farro, apples, butternut squash, dried cherries and nuts. Talk about a well-rounded meal!
According to Business Insider, Chick-fil-A is the first major fast food chain to test quinoa and farro in the United States. After some reported backlash from Chick-fil-A fans, the restaurant has stressed that it is not replacing any meal items with these new healthy dishes, but instead simply adding choices.
Matt Abercrombie, Chick-fil-A’s senior consultant of menu development, says “More people are eating breakfast away from home, and we want to meet the needs of our guests by providing breakfast options that span a variety of nutritional needs, tastes and ingredients.”
Menu items that will be tested in New York, New Jersey, San Diego, Columbia, South Carolina and Washington, DC are as follows: Hash Brown Scramble (either in a bowl or burrito), Egg White Grill Bowl, and Berry Protein Blend smoothie.
The grain bowls will be tested in San Francisco, Sacramento, Tampa and Huntsville, Alabama. If testing is successful in all of these cities, we can hope to see these new menu items expanded to all areas of the U.S! If one of the cities listed above happens to be nearby, definitely go and check it out.
If you’re curious about nutritional information and putting together meal plans based on your macros, Chick-fil-A offers even more assistance. On their website, they feature a page for lighter meal plans, where calories, carbs and fats are broken down in the overall calorie count.
As the website states, “Whether you are looking to lower your caloric intake, eat fewer carbohydrates or reduce fat in your diet, we have options throughout our menu to help with your goals.” Definitely a step up for fast food!
