Oh, sheet. Costco bakery trips may never be the same again! The wholesale retailer no longer sells its popular half-sheet cakes and grazed over this announcement in a Facebook post on May 29. “Big achievements deserve a celebration! Share the love with your grad by picking up a round 10” cake at the bakery. Please note: Half-sheet cakes are currently not available to order or customize,” Costco wrote in the post. According to TODAY Food, Costco confirmed the news on Tuesday.
“We are currently not selling our 1/2 sheet cakes at any US locations and as of right now, we have no immediate plans to bring them back. We are focusing on our smaller 10" White & 10" Chocolate Cakes that seem to be resonating with our members,” the Costco team wrote in an email statement. The Costco half-sheet cakes retailed for around $18.99 and could serve up to 48 people, according to Taste of Home. Customers considered these cakes an affordable option for big families and milestone celebrations.

When asked in the Facebook post why Costco discontinued the cakes, a representative wrote, “To help limit personal contact and create more space for social distancing, Costco has reduced service in some departments. At this time, we are not making sheet cakes for special order.” Fans quickly shared their disappointment in Costco’s Facebook post announcing their 10-inch cakes. “Costco please bring back the half sheet cakes once they’re safe to make. So many people rely on those cakes for special occasions!
It would be a shame to discontinue them,” one Facebook user commented. “You all have the best cake around. Period!” Another Facebook user wrote, “The sheet cake was the main reason I even got a membership!”
