How do I love thee, coffee? Let me count the ways.

I love drinking you black and bitter; steamed and foamy; as a cappuccino; a mocha; an espresso; as cold brew. And luckily for Starbucks fans who appreciate extra diversity, the coffee chain has announced that it will now be offering almond milk as yet another non-dairy alternative.

According to a Starbucks press release, Starbucks Almondmilk will be available in more than 4,600 stores starting on September 6. The non-dairy milk was highly requested by customers on My Starbucks Idea, the company’s platform for crowdsourcing suggestions.

"We created our own almondmilk recipe to complement our hot, iced and Frappuccino blended beverages," Yoke Wong, manager on Starbucks beverage R&D team, said in the press release. "It was designed so that when steamed, it creates a rich foam for hot beverages and is delicious and creamy when served in cold beverages."

“The almond butter in our almondmilk adds body and complements the roasty notes of espresso,” Wong said. “Because it’s unflavored, customers can customize to their taste preferences.”

In 2004, Starbucks began offering soymilk, its first non-dairy milk alternative; 11 years later, coconutmilk started being offered as well. No word yet if the chain plans on adding the mystifying pea milk to its roster any time soon…
