What started as an April Fools' joke flavor became a reality when fans went nuts over it.
The "joke" was a "Green Juice" flavor of gummy bear made by Sugarfina, a luxury candy retailer. It was a play on the juicing trend that's taking over the market today, but according to Delish, fans started calling in desperate to purchase the gummies. Of course they did.
The Sugarfina co-founders said they loved the idea of the juice-inspired gummies, but didn't expect them to catch on so well. "We called up our L.A. neighbor Pressed Juicery and had a ton of fun collaborating with them on the recipe."
Sugarfina brands itself as "candy, for grown-ups." It's a gourmet candy boutique that, according to its website, offers 140 different types of gourmet candies "made from the world's finest ingredients." You can imagine the partnership between them and a health foods retailer like Pressed Juicery being a weird mix, I'm sure. The Pressed Juicery, however, was positive about the idea, "We're serious about what we do, but we don't take ourselves too seriously," CEO Hayden Slater said. I always love for my favorite companies to show they have some humor.
The green gummies are made from a blend of spinach, apple, lemon and ginger concentrate. Their coloring comes from spirulina and turmeric (doesn't sound like a very sweet, sugary candy to me). They're fat free and gluten free, and full of vitamins A and C; are we sure they taste like candy?
The candies are on sale through Sugarfina in three sizes: 15.4 ounces, 7.6 ounces and 1.7 ounces if you'd like them in shot size. Prices range from $3 to $14, unless you want to go for the seven-shot package, which is marketed as a "cleanse." The 7 Day Gummy Bear Cleanse includes a box of seven little shots of gummies and is on sale at Sugarfina stores and on their website for $23. It's actually a pretty cute idea for a fun a gift.
You can also buy the gummies at Pressed Juicery. They're available on their own or even as a topping for their dairy-free, gluten-free ice cream.
