Kitchen Hacks: How To Get Rid Of Stubborn Odors For Good

Ingredients

Is your significant other coming over, but your home still smells like your burnt fish fiasco from the night before? Or maybe your parents are coming to visit, and you want them to think that you're an actual adult who always cleans and never lets the garbage sit a little longer than it should? We get it, and we've got your back. Don't panic.

Here are some super easy ways to make your kitchen (and entire home) smell clean and fresh:

1. Simmer Aromatics

Fill a pot or saucepan halfway with water, then add some great-smelling ingredients. We recommend a thinly sliced orange, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and a glug of vanilla extract. Bring it to a boil and then bring it down to a simmer for a couple hours. Before you know it, a delicious aroma will permeate the whole house. Make sure you keep an eye on it! You can also throw the same ingredients in a slow cooker and let it simmer for a few hours for the same effect.

2. Natural Odor Neutralizers

Coffee grinds and baking soda are both natural deodorizers. Fill a bowl or open air container (we recommend a parmesan cheese shaker) with coffee grinds and leave them out somewhere. They'll kill the odors pretty quickly. Put your baking soda in a box, bowl, or sachet and leave it somewhere that odors accumulate, like your fridge.

3. Vanilla Vibes

Speaking of your fridge, we have another delicious way to keep it smelling fresh. Simply pour a little bit of vanilla extract on a paper towel, and then wipe it on the plastic interior of your fridge. The plastic will absorb the vanilla scent and help neutralize odors.

Alternately, you can soak a couple of cotton balls in vanilla extract and leave them in a bowl in the fridge for the same effect, or you can leave them around the house. Essential oils work great too -- we recommend about 15 drops of your favorite scent.

4.  Vinegar To The Rescue

We've told you before how much we love white vinegar for getting rid of strong odors. Putting it in little bowls and strategically placing them around the house will help absorb those bad smells that you just can't seem to get rid of with any other method.
