Ingredients

The pumpkin was once just a fall gourd made purely decorative as Halloween and Thanksgiving arrived. Sitting on the porch steps of spooky pseudo haunted houses, the humble pumpkin is eventually left to its own slow decay as Thanksgiving guests come and go (that is, if mischievous teens spared it from being smashed on the driveway).

But, almost as quickly as temperatures drop and leaves shrivel and discolor, so did the pumpkin's placement in the fall season. It can't be said for sure how pumpkins switched from Halloween decor to an essential fall flavor and fragrance distilled into every coffee, dessert, bathroom candle and deodorant imaginable (yes, pumpkin spice what-have-yous are everywhere).

So, it's not such a surprise that Krispy Kreme jumped onto the pumpkin carriage and created the Pumpkin Spice Glazed Doughnut.

But, Krispy Kreme is not messing around (or is). When you're a big-shot doughnut chain releasing pumpkin-flavored treats like everybody else, you have to approach your marketing strategy with a unique urgency.

For one day only, the Pumpkin Spice Glazed Doughnut will be available at the fabled doughnut joint. Mark your calendars for September 8!

Fresh out of the oven, they'll be going, going, going … then gone. Forever. It's deja-vu; just last fall Krispy Kreme pulled this same stunt, but for National Pumpkin Day. Maybe there's a trend here: fly-by-night pumpkin-flavored creations rather than this perennial pumpkin craze that shows no sign of slowing down.

If you're clutching your gourd heart over Kreme's senseless pumpkin tease, fret not, pumpkin lovers. Krispy Kreme isn't trying to play hard to get. They're just giving us a little taste of the good stuff and attempting to answer the question of who makes the best pumpkin doughnut. (It's Krispy Kreme, of course.)

But luckily, some pumpkin-flavored doughnuts will still be around after September 8. Krispy Kreme's Pumpkin Spice Cake doughnuts are available during the entire fall season at most store locations. Don't miss your chance, get 'em while they're hot!
