The money makin’ time for kiddos has arrived, say hello to lemonade season. Not only is this a way to keep the young ones busy during summer vacation, it puts a couple extra bucks in their pocket (win for everyone right there). Maximize your neighborhood clientele through these lemonade stand must-haves.
A Fun Sign
This is absolutely necessary for the marketing aspect. Go bold by purchasing a bright poster board and maybe sprinkle a hint of glitter to really catch people’s attention.
If you are located in a deeper part of the neighborhood, multiple signs may be beneficial to direct clientele to lemony ice cold goodness.
Music
Keep the good vibes rolling with a fun music playlist. This will have everyone bumpin’ to the beats while basking in the summer sunshine.
Change
Not too many people are carrying around change and small bills anymore, be ahead of the game by providing a decent amount of change for the large bills headed your way.
Food
Nothing reels people in more than food, right? Stack a plate of fresh baked cookies or brownies to attract the crowd.
Donation Container
Not only will this keep your money organized, but it is a subtle reminder to tip the fellow kiddos for their hard work.
Table and Chairs
Of course, a table is vital for keeping the donation container and lemonade necessities at your very fingertips. In addition, throw out a couple of lawn chairs as well, that way, people can sip on their refreshing beverage while chatting away.
Cups, Plates, Napkins
The essentials to keep the lemonade stand runnin’. Keep things environmentally-friendly by purchasing biodegradable items, these are easy to find
online.
Lemonade
This is the reason for gathering, right? So the lemonade has to be good. Keep it fresh and veer away from the powdered stuff with this recipe.
Homemade Lemonade Recipe
Ingredients
- 8 large lemons*
- 2 cups sugar, (or 1 ¼ cup honey)
- 8 cups water
- 1 - 2 lemons, sliced for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Wash lemons thoroughly with soap or vegetable spray, and warm water. Roll the lemons firmly on a hard surface until they become soft. This will help them to release their juice.
- Slice the lemons. Mash the lemon slices and the sugar in a large bowl, using a potato masher or a wooden spoon, until the sugar is dissolved. If you have time you can chill the mashed lemons and sugar mixture in the fridge for about 30 minutes. This will help the sugar and the lemon juices to combine and for better flavor.
- Strain the sugar-lemon mixture into a glass measuring cup, and measure 2 cups. If you have less than 2 cups, juice some more lemon juice.
- Add the 2 cups lemon-sugar mixture to a pitcher and add 8 cups water. Stir the lemonade, taste it to make sure it’s not too sweet for you. Add more water if necessary.
- Store lemonade in the refrigerator.
NOTES
*After you mash the lemons according to the recipe instructions, you should get 2 cups of lemon juice. If you are using smaller lemons, you would need between 8 - 10 lemons.
As written, this lemonade has the perfect amount of sweetness for me, but it goes without saying that you could adjust the sweetness or lemon flavor to taste.
