From authentic regional specialties to ice cream floats, special menu items will be available at McDonald's this summer.

The Lobster Roll, which made its official debut last year, has returned to over 600 restaurants throughout New England and the Albany, New York area.

"The return of the Lobster Roll is exciting for McDonald's because it was such a hit with our customers last summer," said Suzanne Pingeton, Marketing Director for the Boston Region, in a press release. "We aim to deliver diverse, quality menu items that resonate with the customers in our community, and we're proud to offer this regional favorite at such a great value."

"It's exciting to see a high demand for regional flavors at McDonald's," said Chef Michael Haracz, Manager of Culinary Innovation at McDonald's USA. "Our Lobster Roll is made with quality ingredients, freshly prepared in our kitchens and exactly what our customers enjoy from McDonald's. This sandwich is the perfect blend of ingredients to give you a great-tasting summer sandwich from McDonald's."

The sandwich, which is made with 100 percent North Atlantic lobster meat, is priced at $8.99. At 290 calories, it’s one of the healthiest items on the menu.

However, reviews of the sandwich have been mixed.

"If you don't live near the ocean, this menu item might make sense," stated a 2015 Eater review. "For those of us on the crustacean-rich coast, there's no reason for its existence. I wouldn't eat this farce again for any price."

"It was a pretty good lobster roll," wrote Suzie the Foodie, as reported by The Motley Fool. "I have had better and I have had much worse when I lived on the East Coast."

McDonald’s locations in New York and Seattle will also be able to enjoy ice cream floats this summer, specifically Dr. Pepper floats.

"As part of our journey to build a better McDonald's, our franchisees have more flexibility than before to offer new menu items like breakfast bowls, Gilroy garlic fries and yes, the Dr. Pepper Float," said McDonald's spokesperson Terri Hickey, reports Business Insider.

Although most Americans have probably enjoyed an ice cream float, this is the first time the delectable beverage has been offered at domestic McDonald’s restaurants. Locations in the Philippines, India, and Hong Kong have enjoyed ice cream floats long before the drink made it to the United States.
