It seems that McDonald’s is becoming more and more efficient.
In downtown Chicago, at least one McDonald’s franchise has a new self-serve McCafe station. As steamed milk and espresso is dispensed automatically when employees provide McCafe drinks for their customers, why not design a machine to automate the entire process?
The kiosk, which has been placed inside the restaurant away from the main counter, could be convenient for both customers and employees. McDonald’s employees no longer have to walk to the back of the counter to attend customers who just want a drink, which would free up their time and energy to serve others. Patrons who just want a drink can skip the normal line.
According to Brand Eating, the station includes a touchpad screen to order the beverage and pay via credit card only. The kiosk also consists of a beverage spout and a cup dispenser, ensuring that customers have no need to leave the station without everything necessary to pay for and enjoy a delicious beverage.
Similar to the typical McCafe menu, beverages include lattes, cappuccinos, and mochas with options to customize types of milk, syrups, flavorings, and amount of espresso. There does not appear to be an option for drip coffee at the self-serve kiosk. At the downtown Chicago station, each drink costs $2.99.
