Ingredients

Given how big Texas is, it should not come as a surprise that it's home to America's favorite sport, football -- of the 10 college football teams in Texas, five of them are in the "Power Five," which is the most of any single state.

Texans also take their food seriously: barbecue, brisket, and beer. Food is a sport in Texas. And every year, the State Fair of Texas tries to compete for the biggest, greasiest, sweetest -- and in the case of the "Oreo Beer" -- weirdest iteration of American favorites.

Barrera's "Oreo Beer" is served with a cup lined with Oreo cream filling and made with an American milk stout, according to Popsugar. Served with crushed cookie crumbs and a floating Oreo, the Oreo Beer turned many heads at the state fair. As for the taste, one Instagram user posted a photo caption: "definitely a weird one to try not bad but never again."

Fairgoers of the annual State Fair of Texas arrived empty-bellied and departed full-to-the-brim and artery-clogged. Below are some of the other jaw-dropping, outrageous examples of untrammeled gluttony at the Big Tex Choice Awards -- here are a few of the finalists:

Deep Fried Chicken Noodle Soup on a Stick

This mystery of a dish is the brainchild of Sherry and Chris Howard, who were able to deep fry homestyle chicken noodle soup and serve it on a stick. The official Texas State Fair website leaves out the mystery of how these balls are made, but that no longers seems relevant. This is a soup meant to be eaten on a stick!

Deep Fried Froot Loops

Gracie and Milton Whitley's deep fried Froot Loops is a reimagination of breakfast cereal, one that is true to state fair cuisine -- marshmallow-whipped, batter-dipped and fried, then drizzled with glaze and powdered sugar.

Funnel Cake Bacon Queso Burger

Of all the Texas State Fair provisions, the Funnel Cake "takes the cake" as the winner of Best Taste in Savory. Tom Grace and Edna Sutton start by frying two funnel cakes (stand-ins for burger buns); the first funnel bun is topped with a freshly grilled burger patty, crispy bacon and queso, while the other bun is dusted with powdered sugar. A giant plastic fork is stabbed through the whole Funnel Burger before serving.
