As a result of growing demand, Kellogg's has finally debuted Cinnamon Frosted Flakes.
Fortune reports that since Frosted Flakes were introduced in 1952 as “Sugar Frosted Flakes,” there have only been three variations of the cereal. The first was Frosted Flakes Choco Zucaritas, and then there was Frosted Flakes with Marshmallows and finally, Frosted Flakes with Energy Clusters.
Now, for the first time in 64 years, Kellogg’s has added a new cinnamon variety. This is in response to fans taking to social media to heavily suggest the new flavor. “We started to really notice it over the last couple of years,” Brad Schwan, Kellogg’s senior director of morning food marketing said. “We’d see fans on Twitter talking about how cinnamon would be so terrific on Frosted Flakes and we really started to listen.”
So, after working on perfecting the recipe for about a year, and after going through about 100 different variations, Kellogg’s has landed on the much anticipated new flavor.
What makes it different? According to Brand Eating, fans were able to offer insight during the development process, and what they came up with was rather different than what you might expect. Kellogg’s is using korintje cinnamon within the coating of each flake, rather than dusting cinnamon over the top, where it could easily wash off into the milk.
The new Cinnamon Frosted Flakes will start hitting shelves this November, but will be widely available and much easier to find in January 2017. If you’re a Frosted Flakes fan, you’ll probably want to hurry off to the supermarket to try these. If you’re a Cinnamon Toast Crunch fan, you might want to taste test and compare to see what all of the hype is about. Maybe you get tired of the cinnamon washing off in the milk and want to try something a little different?
One thing I know for sure is that fans on social media will be stoked to find that their suggestions were taken seriously. It’s always great to know that your favorite brand actually listens and works with feedback.
