When you were a kid, did you ever wonder where chocolate milk came from?
It's not shocking for a little kid to think that chocolate milk comes from brown cows, or that strawberry milk is produced by pink cows. In fact, it's kind of cute and endearing.
It's a little less cute and endearing when adults believe that chocolate milk comes from brown cows.
A survey conducted in April revealed a somewhat concerning finding about Americans' milk knowledge, according to Food & Wine.
The survey, which was conducted by the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy, found that 7 percent of the 1,000 adults surveyed think that chocolate milk is produced by brown cows.
On that same note, 48 percent of people who participated in the survey claimed they don’t know where chocolate milk comes from. Yikes.
To set the record straight, most of the milk we drink comes from cows, but it also comes from animals like sheep and goats (and, yep, humans).
But the milk predominantly bought at supermarkets worldwide is cow’s milk. And chocolate milk and other chocolate-flavored things get that flavor from cocoa beans.
Now that that’s out of the way, we can at least agree that chocolate milk is a wonderfully delicious creation.
