Starbucks has lately made itself into the belle of the coffee chain ball, after its release of the infinitely Instagrammable Unicorn Frappuccino, which was then immediately followed by the Dragon Frappuccino.
Seriously, their frozen blended drinks were everywhere, and you could hardly log on to any social media page without being inundated by a flood of psychedelic-colored caffeinated drinks.
Now, however, the chain is going back to its roots, and introducing a simple but totally satisfying new blended drink for the summer: the Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino.
There are no gimmicks with this one, folks. The drink will be available in participating U.S. and Canada Starbucks stores as of May 2, and it aims to satisfy your sweet tooth and cool you off as the weather heats up.
"We started by thinking of the heydays of summer,” Jennica Robinson from Starbucks beverage development team said in the press release. “We were inspired by thoughts of dark starry nights, looking up at the sky with a cool summer breeze."
The beverage features scoops of super dark and rich cocoa that is then blended with coffee, milk and ice and infused with cooling mint sugar crystals. It then gets a layered effect by being cut with a generous dollop of whipped cream, then another layer of the blended cocoa mixture. The entire beverage is finished off with more whipped cream and a dusting of dark cocoa.
Look how pretty this thing is!
Says beverage development manager Ryan Coombes in the press release: "Mint is instantly cooling. It contrasts with the dark cocoa and whipped cream for a balanced, refreshing beverage.
"People are gravitating toward vibrant colors," adds Coombes. "Jet black is filling the void in unexpected places."
What do you think of the dark and rich new drink? Do you favor it over the Unicorn Frappuccino, or are you still leaning in to the psychedelic and eye-catching beverages Starbucks has been pumping out of late?
