As of April 5, 2017, Eleven Madison Park in New York City has been crowned the best restaurant on the entire planet Earth, according to "The World's 50 Best Restaurants" guide.

The list debuted in 2002 and publishes an annual ranking of its 50 choices every year. While the list is no doubt influential (and I'm sure every restaurant featured on the list is absolutely superb and deserves its accolades) it's worth mentioning that it is also rather exclusionary in its scope.

As Eater points out, only three women chefs have made the list (which is a step above the two who were featured last year); and all three of the women-chef-led restaurants (Arzak, Central and Cosme) are co-run by male chefs.

Additionally, there is not even one African restaurant on the top 50 list this year, and no Australian, South American, African or Asian restaurant has ever been awarded the title World's Best since the list's conception.

Still, if you're looking for a phenomenal meal and are willing to drop some mad cash to enjoy it (a dinner for two with wine often runs diners over $1000 at Eleven Madison Park, this year's top-ranked establishment), then check out the list of featured restaurants below!
