If you've been having no luck trying to find Wendy's Spicy Chicken Nuggets, you're not alone. We're all slowly realizing that those spicy little snacks are disappearing from menus around the country. What gives?

Foodbeast writer Constantine reports that he realized his own local Wendy's wasn't carrying the spicy nuggets any longer, which ruined his usual road trip routine, so he decided to try and get to the bottom of things. The statement he got from an actual Wendy's spokesperson, however, led to a brick wall. He was told that he should try the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, or perhaps the new Asiago Ranch Chicken Club, spicy style.

"Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets are available in select cities across the country, and the traditional Chicken Nuggets are still available at all Wendy’s restaurants. Customers who are fans of Spicy Chicken Nuggets can opt for our Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Wendy’s also recently added an Asiago Ranch Chicken Club that can be ordered Grilled, Spicy or Homestyle."

While those are very tempting options -- the Spicy Chicken Sandwich being my main Wendy's go-to -- the question about the actual spicy nuggets wasn't quite answered. All that was really said about the disappearance of the menu item was that it's still available in some select Wendy's locations. What does that mean? Why are they disappearing?

Ohio's WCMH News touches briefly on the subject, which is proof that those of us who have noticed the slow disappearance of the nuggets aren't imagining things. WCMH reports that one Wendy's spokesperson has said that Wendy's plans on adding new products to the menu. Maybe a new product will be something similar to the spicy nuggets?

My biggest concern is that perhaps the spicy nuggets weren't making much of a profit, which means Wendy's probably wouldn't have much of a reason to bring them back. It's so surprising to me actually, because Wendy's really has the best spicy chicken, and nuggets in general, when compared to other fast food spots.

I guess we'll see what happens. In the meantime we can enjoy Wendy's chicken sandwiches spicy-style. That's not too much of a compromise, since they're delish, too.
