Chicago Cubs pitcher Jason Hammel got a surprisingly awesome prescription after visiting the doctor for frequent cramps that were impacting his ability to play ball.

When you visit your physician for most ailments, you might expect to hear that you need to stop enjoying your life so much and trade in the beer and pizza for more leaves or something, but that wasn't the case for Hammel.

The pro baseball player hadn't been doing so hot in the big leagues this season, winning only six of his last 11 games and cramping up frequently, according to Vice Munchies. During a July 7 game, his hand started to cramp so badly that he had to leave the game early.

That's when his doctor called with a surprising recommendation: Eat more potato chips.

"For my cramps, if it's a chronic thing, [my doctor] said, 'Potato chips,' because they have a lot of potassium and obviously the sea salt helps retain water," Hammel said at a recent press conference. "So I focused on that over the break and ate a lot of potato chips, and I think it turned out pretty well. Potato chips prescription—PCP—that's what I'm going to try to go with."

A potato chip prescription sounds like a luscious but unhealthy fever dream, yet it is a happy reality for Hammel, who was recently sent five huge boxes of Utz brand chips.

"I have enough to obviously make it through the next 13 to 14 starts," the pitcher said of his new stash, according to The Chicago Tribune.

It is worth noting that, after a week-long potato chip binge, Hammel returned to the field and won his first game back on July 16.

"Be careful what you wish for," said Hammel. "You are what you eat. I don't want to get completely wrapped up in this stuff, but it's awesome."

We're just hoping we can get our doctor to make the same recommendation.
