Ingredients
- 9 cups tart cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- A pinch of black pepper
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup butter, melted
- Ice cream (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven at 180° C.
- Peel, remove the core and slice the apples. To avoid oxidation, fill a bowl with water and lemon juice and add the emerge the sliced apples.
- Place sliced apples in ungreased 13x9-inch baking dish.
- Add 3/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a bowl and sprinkle over apples.
- Combine remaining cinnamon, pepper, flour, sugar, eggs, baking powder and salt in a bowl; mix until mixture resembles coarse crumbs and sprinkle over apples.
- Pour the melted butter over the topping.
- Bake 45-55 minutes or until lightly browned and apples are tender.
- Serve warm with ice cream, if desired.
