Fried bananas and ice cream are a delight at Chinese restaurants; this quick and easy recipe brings the warm sweetness, slightly crispy, home for a dessert or afternoon snack. Preparing the fried bananas is a matter of three ingredients and about ten minutes. One option would be to serve them over cherry yogurt and juice on the side for breakfast. Pop them with coffee or tea to get through the tired afternoon, or enjoy them after a splendid home-cooked Chinese meal.

It is best to use slightly overripe bananas. Sugar, cinnamon, and cooking oil are the only other ingredients, nutmeg or any other flavor you can dream up being an option as well. Slice the bananas into rounds one third of an inch thick. Mix the sugar, cinnamon, and any other spices together in a bowl as you heat your greased pan over medium heat. The amount of sugar and other spices will depend on your preferences for flavor, diet, etc. This dish is more versatile than it usually gets credit for!

Get those banana rounds into the pan and sprinkle some spice mix over the top, letting the bananas cook for about two and a half minutes. Pay attention to the hardness of the bananas. If they start to soften, they are most likely done!

Flip the bananas and sprinkle on some more flavor. Let them cook for another couple of minutes, and ready! Your family will love this healthy and quick snack, and it’s a great way to save those extra bananas from the compost pile.

  1. Slice the bananas into rounds, approximately ⅓ inch thick. In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if desired). Set aside.
  2. Lightly spray a large skillet with nonstick oil spray and warm over medium-low heat and add the banana slices. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon mixture on top. Cook for about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Flip the rounds, then sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon mixture. Cook for 2-3 more minutes until the bananas are soft and warmed through.
