An odd discovery is leading to the recall of upwards of 100,000 pounds of Healthy Choice chicken bowls. Conagra Brand, Inc. owns Healthy Choice and is recalling based on concerns that the could possibly contain “extraneous material, specifically small rocks”. The USDA’s (United States Department of Agriculture) Food and Safety Inspection Service announced the recall last Friday, online.
The recall is huge, with over 130,763 pounds of chicken bowl products being involved, all of which were produced on January 23 of this year. The exact product involved in is the Healthy Choice Power Bowls - Chicken Feta & Farro. They have labels “P115” printed on the packaging, next to the lot code, and they will have a best buy date of Oct 19, 2020. Similar items with a different date are not involved in the recall.
This is a serious recall, at a Class 1 level, which states according to the USDA that "this is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
There haven’t been any serious injuries or deaths reported from consuming these products, but they have been distributed nationwide, and also to Canada. If you have any concerns that you may have eaten this product, you should contact your healthcare provider.
If you have any of these items they should be disposed of, or returned to where you purchased them. People who are seeking a refund can contact Conagra Brands Consumer Care at 1-800-672-8240 or Consumer.Care@conagra.com. Image source: Healthy Choice
